Urgent police appeal for schoolboy, 12, missing after going to hospital with head injury

Police have launched an urgent hunt for a young boy who disappeared from hospital after being admitted with a serious head injury.

Joseph Steeley was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment after a bike accident on Wednesday.

But he suddenly vanished and doctors say he is still in need on important medical attention.

Police have appealed to the public to help find the 12-year-old boy, who was last seen at the hospital that night.

He has been missing since Wednesday evening and has links to the Morecambe, Lancaster and Leyland areas, the force say. Lancashire Constabulary say they are ‘very concerned’ for his welfare’ and said he ‘needs to return to hospital.

He is described as 5’2″ tall, slim build and last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, black trousers, dark and orange Karrimor trainers.

The force has shared a picture of Joseph on social media as part of an appeal to find him.

A spokesperson said: “Police are very concerned for the welfare of missing 12 year old Joseph Steeley who was last seen at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on the night of 10th August 2022.

“Joseph is 5’2” tall, slim build and last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, black trousers, dark and orange Karrimor trainers. Joseph has a head injury after taking off his bike and needs to return to hospital.
